Innerscapes, a group show curated by Manuela Lietti, featuring the work of Chen Dandizi, Kan Xuan, Qin Jin, Alice Wang, Yang Guangnan: five of the most cutting edge contemporary female artists active in China today.

Curated by independent art critic and curator Manuela Lietti, the exhibition showcases different bodies of work installation, mixed media interventions, spanning video, and a massive site-specific mural painting covering the gallery’s largest wall. Different methodologies characterized this group of artists. Presented in the form of micro-solo shows, their works revolve around universal yet personal universal issues: the deconstruction and construction of one’s identity, the adherence of the macro (societal/cosmological) and micro (personal) dimensions. These artists practices are an invitation to re-evaluate the physical, personal and processual realms and not merely the mechanical involvement with one’s work. The works of Chen Dandizi touch literature, photography  but also film and installation and film. Kan Xuan mainly works in video, reproducing them as directly as possible. The piece on view is the video “138 Yuan”, commissioned for the second Yinchuan Biennale and first presented there. In Qin Jin work personal and collective memories co-exist and give birth to a new logic. Having experienced the drastic social changes in the past four decades, her works embody a uniqueness that is specific to this era, which is a sense of bewilderment and anxiety. Alice Wang approaches her varied subjects (astronomy, geology, Eastern metaphysics, ecology, phenomenology, the nature of time itself) with a scientific and profound curiosity. Yang multi-faceted practice spans installation, sculpture, video, and performance. Her works stress the struggle between the artificial and natural and artificial processes of implosion and explosion that stand for the conflictual nature of today’s reality and society.  Manuela Lietti is graduated from the department of Oriental Languages and Civilizations at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, in 2007 she obtained her master’s degree from the Academy of Art and Design of Tsinghua University. In 2019 will be one of the executive curators of the 2019 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Shenzhen).
