苏伯德·古普塔: 为社会发声的视觉语言
苏伯德·古普塔出生于1964年印度。他在帕特纳艺术与工艺学院学习绘画,现在生活并工作在新德里。文化身份是古普塔在其职业生涯中一直探讨的主题,他的视觉创作宣示了与环境和他所处时代的团结。此外,他的作品往往结合了熟悉的元素与壮观的场景。
他的职业生涯初期以视频和表演为主,但很快他便开始专注于雕塑创作,这种表演性的动态仍在其雕塑的宏伟尺度中隐约可见。在他的作品中,艺术家探讨了家庭和家的主题,同时也表达了普通人的声音和迁移的故事。通过作品中的物件,他指向了印度社会中边缘化群体为日常需求而奋斗的真实处境,同时也反映了印度经济的辉煌增长。除了处理印度的流行文化、视觉文化和精神文化外,艺术家的作品还延伸至西方传统。
可以说,古普塔的作品,从乡村走向城市,象征了他自己社会的各个方面和社会阶层。艺术家的宏伟雕塑和装置作品,通过组装数百件闪亮的不锈钢工具,反映了古老文化与现代文化、传统与变革之间的短路。
